Evolution

Trapped inside this moment,
the last time I saw you,
when you kissed me,
I tried to turn it into
more than just goodbye,
even though I didn't want you to stay.
Just let me be,
leave me to heal alone.
The leaves start to change,
as the bruises fade to yellow,
the scars will dim,
but like cracks in the road,
they will never be gone.
I feel them anytime I try
to move forward,
I can't be my old self again,
and I don't know who I'm turning into now.
